Biography
Julie Singewald is a candidate that will have children in elementary, middle school and high school levels during the duration of her first term if elected. She is committed for the long haul to see all levels of the Farmington education system excel and to provide a strong education experience for its students. The following is more information about her.
Where she's from
Julie grew up in Loveland, Colorado. She is graduated from Thompson Valley HS in 1991, and enjoyed being one of the pilot students that allowed High School seniors to attend local colleges for introductory level college course as part of their curriculum. She was able to complete a full college freshman year worth of sciences prior to graduation. She was active in various sports and community programs in her high school such as cheerleading, forensics, swimming/diving, tennis, track and Key Club through the local Kiwanis organization. She also worked as a lifeguard at the local community center and outdoor pools.
How did she get here
Julie moved to Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She completed her Bachelors of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry in 1999. During this time she enlisted in the MN Air National Guard as an antenna installation and maintenance specialist. She served 8 years in the Air Guard, traveling to many locations for various jobs including Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Germany. During her service, Julie was selected to serve four years on a National Advisory Committee to Congress in Washington DC.
Current occupation
Julie is currently working as the Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Microbiology for Allina Laboratories at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. She has worked for Allina since 2000. Julie finds working in health care very rewarding. The technology is ever changing and the need for constant continuing education in her field can be very exciting. She also enjoys the role the lab now plays in the Emergency Department, where she is occasionally staffed. "To know that I am playing an important part of a team effort to provide excellent health care is one of the best parts of my job."
Community/School Involvement
Julie has volunteered for various youth programs in the Farmington area. She has spent time as a coach and assistant coach for the Farmington Youth Recreational Soccer program over the last 6 years and managed a team for the Farmington Youth Hockey Association this last year. Julie has also volunteered her time with the St. Michael's Church Vacation Bible School program for the last 7 years in various roles from serving on the committee to group leader.
Being an active parent in the school has been very important to Julie. She has volunteered many hours to Farmington Elementary and the Kindergarten Center. Julie has spent time assisting with classroom learning centers, field trips, seasonal parties and co-coaching for Destination Imagination. She has also helped in the vision and hearing screening, fundraising programs and school functions. Julie served as the volunteer coordinator for Farmington Elementary for the 2007-2008 school year as well as a parent on the Elementary Budget Advisory Committee this last year.
Family
Julie and her husband Bill moved to the Farmington area in 1996. Bill is serving in active duty Air Force as a training manager for the MN Air National Guard. They have three daughters, Jessica 11, Molly 9 and Anna 5.
